It was a privilege to have lived in Crewe during the same period as Peter. We both went to the same schools, played in the same areas, and served our apprenticeship with Rolls Royce. So I was lucky to have known many of the same people and places as he did.
Peter always gave you with a happy smile when you met. Also if you got in touch by phone he would give you a cheerful greeting. He was always happy to chat about Crewe in times gone by. Taking you back to the happy days when you were young. Back then time were hard. Despite this hardship it was a time when we laughed a lot, knew all our neighbors, and the streets were full of people with whom you could stop and chat.
I will miss our chats, but thankfully Peter has written several books about Crewe. So his stories will still be there for us to enjoy. Also his positive attitude to life, which is reflected in his books, will remain as an inspiration to us all.
A humble tribute from Arthur Pickup.
